Teaching The New Polka March

Begin by saying,

"Polka and March music are related to each other because they both have 2/4 tempo.

We want to unite them into a new genre of music that we call The New Polka March.  We believe this new genre will become a powerful political force because

  1. It has a Binary beat
  2. It will sing about God, family, and country
  3. It will attract heroes

To demonstrate the Binary tempo of the 2/4 beat

  1. Watch my fingers as they march up my arm. (Use your index and middle finger to imitate someone marching up your arm as you say in drill sergeant tempo of 1, 2, 3, 4."
  2. Do this a second time and tell the person to watch your fingers closely as they march.
  3. Repeat slowly a third time, but this time, tell your audience to notice that, "If I take my first step with my index finger, then the index finger does not move on the 2 or 4 count.
  4. "Because it does not move on the 2 and 4 count, the count was zero.  Therefore, the real count of the Polka and March is not 1, 2, 3, 4. Rather, it is 1, 0, 1, 0.  Those are Binary numbers.

The most common use of the Binary beat is walking, running, or marching. 

However, it has a more important use than that.  It is the beat of the universe and all modern civilizations.

For example, binary is the motion of planets as they progress and recess around stars.  It is the expansion and contraction of matter.  It is the compression and combustion of gasoline and jet engines.  It is the positive and negative charge of electricity.  It is forward and backward, the tick and tock of an escapement clock, the Yes and No of discourse, and so on.

"The next idea to understand is that God, family, and country are very powerful human sentiments.

Over 15 years, we surveyed people and discovered that their strongest feelings were related to God, family, and country

The survey went like this:

  1. Name the things that you love, and I will write them on a piece of paper.

  2. Now, from this list of things you love, check the ones you would die for.

  3. From this check list of things that you would die for, circle the top 3

If you will die for something, then those things have very powerful sentiments.  In fact, they are absolute in your life." 

 

Some things people love

friends, family, pets, food, clothes, money, music, shows, cars, God, sports, travel, sex, church, country, political parties, actors,

Perhaps, they have specific things they love, such as,

food = pizza sports = football presidents = Bush
book = Tom Sawyer paintings = Mona Lisa actors = Heston
music = Country friends = Sheila pets = cats
countries = America cars = Mercedes games = bingo

"The next idea to understand is that Heroes are a powerful political force because they are genetically predisposed to help their fellow man.  They will and must sacrifice their life for the preservation of the species.

To understand the power of the heroic instinct, think of the Honey Bee's instinct to sacrifice its life for the hive.  One of the great hero speeches of our times said, "Ask not what your country can do for you.  But, rather, ask what you can do for your country."  And, millions of volunteers thronged to his programs.

Dr. James J. Moore, a professor of anthropology at the University of California at San Diego, said that of all the species that he studied, including many different primates, "Humans are the nicest species I know.  To see those guys risking their lives, climbing over rubble on the chance of finding one person alive...."

Heroes will sacrifice their life for the good of the community, for the good of their family, for the good of their country.  To a hero, God, family and country represent absolute truth, absolute good, and absolute beauty.  They will die for those sentiments.

So, if The New Polka March is binary and sings about God, family and country, where will musicians go to recruit heroes?

Well, first of all, The New Polka March musicians and supporters will not appear as Wannabees, playing loud, illogical, incongruous, obnoxious music to capture the attention of the naive and rebellious members of our society.

The New Polka March musicians and supporters will not appear as foreigners, playing old time music to please ethnic supporters.

Rather, The New Polka March musicians and supporters will appear as clean cut, progressive, hard working, responsible, disciplined, self-sacrificing, God fearing, family loving, patriotic Americans, playing the new, powerful, universal, logical, beautiful, heroic binary beat.

They will go to places where clean-cut, hard working, responsible, disciplined, self-sacrificing, God fearing, family loving, patriotic Americans go, such as,
