If you thought the guy in the middle was Weird Al Yankovic, you're right.  The guy on the right isn't weird, he's Magik.  You know, Dave Magik...Tampa Bay's hottest Polka DJ.  The guy who keeps Polkas alive on Eighty Eight Five.   The 2/4 guru who puts pep in your step with the Polka Party X-press on WMNF.  The Internet's....  You get the idea.

Well, anyway, Weird Al and Dave go back a long way.  So, in November, when Weird Al stopped at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, he gave his dear friend, Dave, the best seat in the house; then invited him backstage to the party after the show.

And, what a show it was.  Truly, Weird Al is a super star.  Two hours of non stop dancing, singing and spoofing the super stars of Rock N Roll.

The house was packed with clean cut kids who could fit in a Polka crowd anywhere. They clapped, cheered, and sang along with Al's wild and crazy antics.  “My Lasagna”, ”I'm Fat”, ”Eat It”  When a young girl yelled, “Weird Al, we love you!”  And, Al replied,  “I love you, too!”  The audience stood up and cheered even louder.

But, the moment of truth came when Al sang his last song and told his fans good-bye.  The whole Center, which was packed, gave him a standing ovation, then held up candles.  In the darkness of the Center, the sight was impressive.

Although Weird Al is not related to the Polka King, Frankie Yankovic, he is still a very good friend of Polka music.  On several occasions during his show, he brought out his accordion and sang a self composed Polka.  Now, it didn't sound like any Polka you ever heard in your life, but it was a Polka.  And, his thousands of fans sang along.

After the show Dave Magik said, “He's weird alright!  But, he’s one of the greatest entertainers I've ever seen.”
